The Art of Self-Preservation: Burnout Prevention for Human Service & Mental Health Professionals

In the demanding world of human services and mental health care, caring for others often comes at the expense of caring for oneself. This workshop centers the practice of self-preservation as a critical component of professional sustainability. Participants will explore the early signs of burnout, the systemic and emotional toll of the helping profession, and practical strategies to protect their well-being. Through guided reflection and skill-building, attendees will leave with tools to maintain balance, restore energy, and continue their work with purpose and resilience.

Workshop Objectives:

  1. Recognize the signs and stages of burnout, and distinguish it from normal work-related stress and compassion fatigue.

  2. Examine how systemic pressures and workplace dynamics contribute to burnout in human service roles.

  3. Develop a personalized self-preservation plan that incorporates boundaries, self-care practices, and long-term resilience strategies.
