Soul Care for Collective Liberation: Reimagining Well-Being

 This workshop invites human service and mental health practitioners to move beyond limits of conventional self-care, embracing soul-care - a decolonized, community rooted practice that honors rest, ancestral wisdom, and collective healing.  Moving past the often commodified and individualistic narratives of self-care, participants will explore how soul care acts as a form of resistance to burnout and pathway to deep, authentic well-being.

Together, we will challenge the idea that care is solely a personal responsibility, instead creating space for participants to reconnect with their values, purpose and the interconnectedness of their work and lives.  This is especially vital for those from marginalized backgrounds, who may struggle to prioritize their own needs within systems that often exploit their labor and compassion.

Workshop Objectives:

1. Examine the interplay between soul care, compassion fatigue, and ethical practice within mental health settings.

2. Identify personal and systemic barriers to implementing meaningful, sustainable care practices.

3. Develop a personalized, soul centered plan that nurtures emotional, spiritual and communal well-being.

About the Presenter: 

Jalana Harris, PhD, LCSW-R

Dr. Harris is a licensed clinical social worker with a Ph.D. in Social Welfare. She is trained in multiple trauma-focused treatments (IFS, EMDR, Brainspotting) and third-wave therapeutic approaches (DBT, ACT) that integrate mind, body, and spirit. As an abolitionist and womanist, her clinical focus is liberation and soul healing. 

She is the author of the "Radical Soul-Care Journal". This journal is a powerful tool for individuals seeking healing, resistance, liberation, and the profound art of reimaging oneself in the face of systemic oppression.
