From Awareness to Action: Managing Microaggressions in the Workplace
This workshop examines the subtle yet harmful effects of microaggressions in professional settings, with a focus on their psychological, emotional, and organizational impact. Participants will learn to recognize different types of microaggressions, understand how they contribute to workplace inequity, and explore strategies to address and disrupt these behaviors. The session is designed to support the development of more inclusive, respectful, and culturally responsive work environments.
Workshop Objectives:
1. Define and differentiate types of microaggressions commonly encountered in mental health workspaces, including those related to race, gender, sexuality and professional hierarchy.
2. Analyze the impact microaggression on staff morale, team dynamics and the therapeutic alliance in clinical and organizational settings.
3. Implement culturally responsive strategies to address, interrupt and repair microaggressionsĀ in ways that support equity, inclusion and psychological safety in the workplace.

Amandia Speakes-Lewis, LCSW-R, PhD
Dr. Speakes-Lewis is aĀ dedicated clinician, social work educator, trainer, and the founder of Theratel Training Institute, a professional development hub committed to advancing wellness, equity, and excellence in the helping professions. With a strong background in curriculum design, social work education, and mental health training, Dr. Speakes-Lewis specializes in mental health clinical care, developing culturally responsive, strengths-based programming that supports BIPOC adult learners, emerging clinicians, and mental health professionals.
Her work centers on preparing adult learners for licensure, fostering professional self-care, and building inclusive spaces where practitioners feel both empowered and seen. Whether in her private practice,Ā the classroom, in community trainings, clinical settings or through virtual workshops, Dr. Lewis brings passion, purpose, and a deep commitment to growth and learning for those she is assisting.
